I had the privelege of interviewing Dr Kevin Leman this week. He is a father of five and the NY Times best-selling author of Have a New Kid by Friday. (As much as I wanted to ask him personal advice about my #9, Silas, I refrained and stayed professional.)
Dr Leman was a delight to interview--friendly, fun and full of information. His approach to parenting is common sense--put the parents back in charge and let the kids be the kids. He made me laugh when he suggested his favorite line of some of today's parents: "Could you quiet down? I am trying to do your homework!"
I write regularly for Memphis Parent Magazine, and the interview and book review will appear in the April issue, but I thought I would do you a favor by letting you in on this book early. If you are having battles at your house; if kids are rolling eyes and sighing sighs, this book is for you. And another head's up: Parents rejoice! Have a New Teenager by Friday is coming out this fall.
My other favorite line of his? "Parenting is not easy, but it is simple." All parents know it isn't easy, don't we? My husband and I are up late with teenagers, up early with younger ones, and up in the middle of the night with, well, you know--#9.
Thank you, Dr Leman, for such a practical appraoch to parenting--a simple message needed into today's complicated world.
