It's that time again--time to count down the year's best.
I thought I would start with what gives me a boost every day. Remember, I have been home with kids for 28 years, so it doesn't take much.
I love the library, but the thing about PBS is you can often find books that are long out of print. Thanks to PBS, I can read Hope the same books I read to my oldest, affectionately called "Tiger" 25 years ago. Her favorite right now, that was also a favorite of his, is "No More TV, Sleepy Dog". Love that story.
Ditto for this website, except for movies. I am weary of dodging bad commercials and Netflix lets me expose the kids to such classics as The Happiest Millionaire (Fred MacMurray), Toby Tyler (that adorable kid from Swiss Family Robinson) and Francis Goes to West Point (Donald O'Connor). On que for this weekend? The Incredible Mr. Limpet about a man who turns into a fish and helps fight WWII. It is, who else, but Don Knotts.
Every day at 3:00 pm. The more spice the better.
Dove Dark Chocolate with Almonds.
I've said it before, and it is still on my list.
Crock Pot Recipes
Did you know you can pour two cans of minestrone soup over frozen chicken breast in the morning and have dinner ready by 5?
Whatever I need, I check here first. Last year, I needed a dress to wear to a West Point formal event. I found the perfect one at our Goodwill, tags still on, for $7.99. I was thrilled, but not as thrilled as when the cashier said, "Oh, this is half price today!" One of the other moms asked me to keep up with how many times I wear this dress and let her know the cost per wear.
If you don't know Pandora, go directly to your iphone and download the app, pick your station and listen for free (and almost ad free). Every day I cook dinner to Tony Bennett, Sinatra and Michael Buble'. They even have Christmas stations.
One Place App
What a privilege it was to sit under the preaching of Adrian Rogers for 9 years at Bellevue in Memphis. I tune in most days through this app to find courage and comfort. Though he has been gone for a decade, you can easily find his sermons on the website www.loveworthfinding.org
In case you haven't noticed, it is a frightening time to live on this planet. I turn here every morning to keep my head and heart straight. If you're unfamiliar, I find comfort in the Psalms, wisdom in Proverbs and strength from the teachings of Jesus in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
If you're a mom and you need a boost, take it from someone who has been home with kids for decades--you have to pace yourself for this marathon of parenting.
Give something on this list a try and I will have another one next time.
"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."
