Got Ben? Part II

I can't let the week come to a close without wishing my son, Ben, a happy 18th birthday.   Last year I wrote a post called "Got Ben?" ( http://www.margiesims.com/blog/2012/07/24/Got-Ben.aspx)
Mom Dot and I even joked about putting the title on a bumper sticker.

This year Mom Dot pays tribute like only a grandma can. She's on a roll with all the summer birthdays at our house.  She says she's not after my job, but I'm getting suspicious.

Got Ben? Part II

Hurricane Elvis

If you're not from Memphis, you probably don't know about Hurricane Elvis, as it did not make the national news.  I remember it well, though, because Hurricane Elvis marked the beginning of one of the greatest storms of our lives.

I thought with all the hurricanes, earthquakes and fires in the news, it might encourage somebody in the midst of a trial.

On July 22, 2003, we were living in Memphis and expecting our 8th baby. That afternoon was like any other July day; the air was still, the temperature was hot, and the kids were bored.

Silas' Day

The third Thursday of every month is the Hearts at Home Blog Hop (hearts-at-home.org). Founder Jill Savage provides a topic and invites mom bloggers to guest blog. When I saw the topic for this month was "No More Perfect Kids" (the title of her latest book), I knew I must revisit this post about Silas' Day.

An email came into my in box with the subject line "Silas' Day." Three year old Silas, it seemed,  instigated a food fight in the cafeteria and had been too rough with some of  his classmates.

Bethany's Birthday!

Mom Dot often says she doesn't have the creative yeast to do much writing.  But nothing gets her creative juices flowing like when we gather round the table to celebrate one of her grand children's birthdays.

While we say happy birthday to America today, yesterday was our sweet Bethany's birthday, and though a day late, I couldn't miss the opportunity to once again have Mom Dot as my guest blogger.  Here is her tribute to Bethany, aka "What I Like About You.
